Power outages mar tuna conference in PNG

Repeated power failures have marked the start of the sixth Pacific Tuna Conference in Papua New Guinea's capital.

The Post Courier reports that over 200 delegates have converged on Port Moresby for the bi-annual event, which is an initiative of PNG's government.

However, during the keynote address by executive director of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission Feleti Teo, the session was plagued with at least a dozen power outages.

Port Moresby, like much of PNG, has this week experienced successive days of outage of PNG Power Limited's electronic electricity vending system, EasiPay.

PNG Power said the outage was due to its EasiPay Database collapsing as a result of technical faults.

It has dismissed speculation that the outages are because of serious financial problems at PNG Power.
