FBC reported Mr O'Connor saying that with new diseases such as SARS, Ebola and other deadly diseases emerging rapidly, it was about time the ministry changed the Act.

He also said the ministry needed both clinical and regulatory tools to safeguard Fijians from such diseases.

The World Health Organisation was working alongside ministry officials and international experts to finalise the draft.
