The Saipan Mayor's Office says the Johoku All-Boys High School in Hiroshima has cancelled next month's planned exchange programme because of the order from the Japanese government.

The cancellation was being blamed on the nuclear weapons test in North Korea which had also warned that it could fire missiles in the direction of nearby Guam.

The exchange programme had been introduced in 2014 and allowed hundreds of Japanese students to visit Saipan.
