The United Nations Resident Co-ordinator in Papua New Guinea hopes the incoming government will support a conservation project in East and West New Britain.

This is the first time the two provinces have collaborated on a conservation programme.
Roy Trivedy said the move was vital for biodiversity, conservation and forestry on New Britain.
"It opens up the possibility, when we have the new government in place now following the election, for the protected areas bill, which hopefully will be introduced and agreed in the next parliament and then it should open up the possibility of having similar types of conservation programmes across the whole of the country."
