There has been increasing dependency on vegetables imported from other districts.

Tabloid Jubi reported one of the causes of the vegetable crisis was the a lack of labour as people switched to other jobs.

Yudhalara Monim of the Department of Agriculture and Food Crops in Jayawijaya said planting sites had been chosen close to watersheds.

Cayenne pepper, cabbage, cauliflower and green beans were among the region's traditional crops.

The local government will also encourage growers to plant onions and various fruit.
