French Polynesia's pro-independence leader Oscar Temaru has advised his supporters not to vote in next month's French presidential election after expressing disappointment at the candidate line-up.
Mr Temaru spoke at meeting marking the 40th anniversary of his Tavini Huiraatira Party.
Oscar Temaru called on people to stay home and pray, and save their energy for the parliamentary election.
Mr Temaru missed out on being a candidate in the presidential election after earlier saying he had enough support to make an official bid.
He reminded his supporters that the French Socialists backed Tahiti's self-determination plan until Francois Hollande became a candidate for president ahead of the 2012 election.
TheTavini party meeting saw three candidates being nominated to run in the French National Assembly election later this year.
They are Valentina Cross, Moetai Brotherson and Richard Tuheiava, who has served one term as French senator.
