Parmod Chand, a former Fiji cane grower and MP in the 1990s, has been endorsed by the opposition National Federation Party to be its next member of parliament.

The announcement was made after one of the NFP's three MPs, Tupou Draunidalo, resigned on Friday.
Ms Draunidalo was suspended from parliament for the rest of the term last June for breaching standing orders.
Mr Chand was an MP for the NFP from 1994 to 1999, when he failed to win re-election. He was the party's fourth-highest polling candidate in the 2014 elections.
However, his appointment needs to be formally approved by the electoral commission, but the commission's term expired on the 9th January and it is yet to be replaced.
Ms Draunidalo was also the NFP's president. Semi Titoko, a Rakiraki lawyer, has been appointed to fill that vacancy until a party meeting later this year.
