Governor of PNG's Western province jailed for 10 years

The governor of Papua New Guinea's western province, Ati Wobiro, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for misappropriation provincial funds.

Wobiro's co-accused, the provincial administrator Modowa Gumoi, and the chief of Fly Care Foundation, Normal Carl May, were also sentenced to ten years in prison.

PNG Loop reports the men were found guilty of having conspired in establishing the Fly Care Foundation three years ago with US$2.3 million in funding from the provincial government.

The national court in Port Moresby found the trio bypassed all the processes required under the Finance Management Act.
