Vaifanua leaders back Gaoteote for American Samoa senate seat

The traditional leaders of Vaifanua county council in American Samoa have again selected Gaoteote Tofau Palaie, the current Senate President, to take up their senatorial seat for the next four years.

It will be the military retiree's third consecutive four year term

Our correspondent in Pago Pago reports Vaifanua is the first county to select an individual for its senatorial seat.

Other counties have delayed their selection of senators until after the general election on November 8.
