Vanuatu told to get more info before tax changes

8:47 am on 20 October 2016

Vanuatu has been told more information should be obtained before the government goes ahead with plans for income tax.

The government wants to introduce income and corporate tax, but an International Labour Organisation wages specialist, Daniel Kostzer, said Vanuatu needs to conduct a more evidence based analysis before this is done.

Mr Kostzer was speaking at a public lecture on the implication of the tax plans in Port Vila and said a household survey to get information about domestic spending patterns is vital.

He said if the Government is going to tax workers it is important it know how much people spend on their households.
