The Kiribati Chief Justice Sir John Muria has sworn in Naatan Teewe as the new justice minister.
The Kiribati Independent reports that Mr Naatan was Attorney General before taking up his new role.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Naatan compared the new ministry to a Kiribati waa, or canoe, that he will take to navigate the legal challenges facing the country.
