Crime reports worry Fiji PM

Fiji's Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama has called for an urgent meeting with the Police Commissioner because of reports of crime.

According to FBC News, he needs to talk to Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho about the spate of violent crime headlining the news in recent weeks.

Last week, a family of four was attacked when a group of young men car-jacked their vehicle in Lautoka.

FBC said there had been home invasions and alleged assaults by a knife-wielding prisoner on the run.

In Lautoka, a businessman Rajneel Singh was left for dead a month ago after being attacked in his home, allegedly by security forces.

Also in Lautoka, the trial is underway of eight suspended Fiji policemen and a military officer charged with rape after a civilian, Vilikesa Soko, died following police detention.
