One of the three people in French Polynesia labelled as Islamic extremists has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for assaulting his partner.
Last week, it became known that three jailed individuals had been classified as jihadists which triggered a call to extend France's state of emergency to Tahiti and its islands.

The 47-year-old man has today been convicted and sentenced for beating his partner last month and was ordered to pay her $US1,000 in damages.
Media reports said the man has many convictions and had returned from France last year after serving 15 years in jail for attempted murder.
He is said to have been radicalised during his time in a French prison.
Tahiti-infos reports that he was poised to fly back to France tonight, reportedly to collect possessions forgotten in a French jail.
Last week, another man classified as a Islamist radical was in court for assaulting prison staff.
