Samoa bank warns on card skimming scam

4:54 pm on 5 September 2016

The Central Bank of Samoa has warned Samoans to be aware of fraudsters attaching card skimmers to automated teller machines.

The Samoa Observer reports three men are in police custody after they allegedly stole $US7000 from a bank by using the skimmers.

The central bank has warned Samoans to look for the attachments to the ATM at the slot area where the card is inserted.

The device is used to skim the card and also to extract the PIN.

The bank said Samoa's local customer accounts had not been targeted so far, and only foreign accounts have been, however vigilence is required by all.
