The EPC will also remove the three categories of charges that have been applied to home consumers.

The chairman of the state owned company, Pepe Christian Fruean, said it is able to do this because of the improvements made to generation facilities over the last several years.

Pepe said this includes new generators and more focus on renewable energy production which had led to greater efficiencies.

"So on the 1st of August what you are going to see is the delivering of this efficiency to our stake holders, to the members of the public so in terms of the EPC it is a great achievement for the management and the staff."

During campaigning for this year's election the ruling HRPP had promised cuts in power charges this year.

The lower rate is only in place until 30 June next year.
