Air Vanuatu adds extra flights to NZ, Australia routes

4:51 pm on 16 June 2016

Air Vanuatu is introducing an additional weekly flight between Port Vila and Auckland, Sydney, and Brisbane because of increased demand.

The airline is currently the only airline flying between Vanuatu and New Zealand after Air New Zealand suspended its services in January because of safety concerns about the runway in Port Vila.

Temporary repairs to the runway have been completed and Virgin Australia has resumed its services from Australia, but Air New Zealand still refuses to return.

In a statement, Air Vanuatu says it is anticipating strong growth in the second half of the year with solid forward bookings.

The airline reduced its schedule after Cyclone Pam devastated much of the country in January 2015.
