Four months after a ground-breaking ceremony for American Samoa's multi food processing plant has been no signs of progress.

AVM Bernardo Engineering is meant to be building the plant at the Industrial Park in Tafuna, but authorities have confirmed it has not made any applications for licences and permits.

At the ground-breaking ceremony the company's owner, Anthony Bernardo, said the plant would be up and running before the end of the year.

The Director of Commerce, Keniseli Lafaele, made another trip to the Philippines last month to meet with AVM.

He said the venture was still moving forward and construction is to start at the end of June.

According to the company's plans, it will initially manufacture fish-based food products and then expand to other food items and fruit based drinks.

It's expected to employ up to 1,000 when fully operational.
