American Samoa hit with wind and rain

4:29 pm on 12 May 2016

A weather warning has been issued in American Samoa with people told to be ready for strong winds, more flooding and high seas.

Winds of up to 80 kilometres an hour are forecast, due to a surface trough fusing with tradewinds.

Areas which would feel the burnt are Pago Pago Bay, beach front villages and elevated places, with a wind advisory in place until 7am tomorrow.

It has been raining already with some flooding and the National weather Service saying flash floods are possible.

There have been landslides with public works crews out.

A five day international gamefishing contest has suspended activity for the day.

Heavy rain starts in American Samoa as Tropical Cyclone Amos approaches.
