Vanuatu is moving towards photographic health warnings on cigarette packaging in order to combat smoking.

At the moment legally sold cigarette packets carry warnings in English, French and Bislama that smoking kills.

A public health official at the Ministry of Health, Jean Jacques Rory, says the images will be launched on World Tobacco Day at the end of May.

Tobacco companies will not be expected to use the photos on their packaging until next year.
