The former Department of Public Safety Commissioner in the Northern Marianas, James Deleon Guerrero, has been arrested.

The CNMI Superior Court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against Mr Guerrero after an investigation found that he allegedly sexually assaulted a then-15-year-old girl inside a pickup truck when he was Police Commissioner in 2013.

Mr Guerrero currently serves as the special assistant for Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

CNMI's Acting governor Victor Hocog effectively put Mr Guerrero on suspension without pay to allow the legal process to take its course.
