Palau's President Tommy Remengesau says he wants to more than double the minimum wage within a decade.

In a one-page bill delivered to the Senate, the government wants to raise the minimum hourly wage by 50 cents a year until it reaches $US 8.50.

The bill stipulates that $US 3.50 dollars be the minimum wage from 1st October.

The last time, a law was passed to increase the minimum wage was in 2013 when it was to be put up gradually to $US 3.50.
