Call on Fiji police to probe alleged obstruction

5:34 pm on 23 March 2016

A senior Fiji opposition politician has called on the police to open an investigation into alleged involvement of senior military officers in obstruction of justice.

The former police commissioner, Ben Groenewald, laid a complaint about the way the military reportedly shielded several men wanted in court over sex crime charges.

He said the police were legally required to open an investigation if a complaint was laid.

Biman Prasad of the opposition National Federation Party told the ABC the complaint was a serious one, and the police had to investigate it.
