American Samoa canneries plea for govt help

American Samoa's two tuna canneries have asked the territorial government to reduce energy and water costs and to provide incentives for the tuna industry.

In January this year, the governor's Fishery Task Force got concessions from the canneries on the hike in the federal minimum wage and restrictions on the fishing fleet accessing from certain fishing grounds.

The canneries made their counter request at the latest meeting of the Western Pacific Fishery Management Council.
