Fiji cancels flood warning but cautions over dengue

Fiji has cancelled a flood warning for all low-lying areas along the Rakiraki River, but is warning to avoid mosquitos as 12 new cases of dengue fever emerge.

Fiji has cancelled a flood warning for all low-lying areas along the Rakiraki River, but is warning to avoid mosquitos as 12 new cases of dengue fever have emerged.

While Cylone Winston threatens the southern island groups, FBC reports there are now almost 100 dengue fever cases.

The National Advisor for Communicable Diseases Dr Mike Kama says the new cases were recorded in Macuata last week.

He says although the cases were mild and patients have been treated and sent home, it still remains a concern for the Health Ministry.

People have been asked to destroy mosquito breeding places and see a doctor if they detect symptoms such as body pains, rashes and red eyes.
