Authorities in the Northern Marianas have put out warnings over the zika virus.
No cases have yet been reported in the CNMI but the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation has put out a health advisory encouraging residents to clear mosquito breeding grounds.
It has also urged pregnant women exposed to zika to see their doctor and seek medical advice.
The authorities say women of childbearing age and particularly pregnant women need to heed public health information to reduce the risk of exposure.
The World Health Organisation declared an international health emergency at the start of this month over the outbreak of the virus.
The authorities fear it is linked to a rise in cases of microcephaly, a birth defect marked by an abnormally small head.
