Palau questioned over human rights conventions

7:17 pm on 20 January 2016

Palau will face its second United Nations human rights review in Geneva on Friday.

Palau received 106 recommendations at its last Universal Periodic Review in 2011.

The Suva-based UN Human Rights Officer Satya Jennings says a lot of those concerns the lack of international conventions Palau signed up to.

Ms Jennings says there will be other issues on the table this week.

"Some of the main issues that we have followed in Palau with regards to the human rights situation are indeed the discrimination and abuse of foreign workers, domestic violence or gender-based violence and the corporal punishment of children so we expect some of these issues to be raised."
