A special weather bulletin has been issued for the Northern Cook Islands on tropical depression T-D-0-8-F.
The Fiji meteorological service says a gale warning remains in force for Rakahanga, Manikiki, Penryhn and Suwarrow.
It says a strong wind remains in force for the rest of the Northern Cook Islands.
It says the potential for this system to develop into a tropical cyclone in the 24 to 36 hours is high.
