CNMI welcomes late governor home

People in the Northern Marianas turned out in droves on Friday to welcome home the remains of the territory's late governor Eloy Inos.

Mr Inos died in the United States two weeks ago after suffering complications from diabetes.

Our correspondent in CNMI reports the roads leading from the main airport of Saipan were lined with people many clutching photos and banners.

In a statement, the new governor Ralph Torres said his predecessor truly loved everything about the islands in the same way he loved life itself.

He says Mr Inos treated everyone with kindness and respect and worked until his death to make a better Commonwealth.

Mr Inos' burial is to take place on Tuesday.
