Fiji's acting police commissioner, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho, says he will apply for the post of police commissioner.
He made the announcement on FBC News.
He says he believes he has the right set of skills for the job given that he has spent more than two decades in the disciplined forces.
Mr Qiliho was put in charge of the police force last month when Ben Groenewald resigned as police commissioner, citing interference by the military.
If successful, Mr Qiliho will be the third senior military officer to run the police force since the military coup of 2006.
