Cooks parliament to sit today

The Cook Islands parliament is to meet from today for just the second time this year, and local reports say the sitting may last only three days.

A petition opposing purse fishing in the Cooks exclusive economic zone is likely to be considered, but another against the Te Mato Vai water infrastructure project has not been completed in time.

An Opposition MP, James Beer, of the Democratic Party, says he is hoping the controversial advance to a failed boat operator and compensation reportedly paid to Manihiki landowners are raised.
