Fiji long beans allowed back into NZ

3:56 pm on 7 December 2015

The New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries has reinstated Fijian long bean imports to New Zealand.

New Zealand suspended the importation of Fijian long bean in October after the live insect pest Thrips palmi was intercepted in three export consignments from Fiji in August, September and October.

Fiji Village reports a successful audit conducted by New Zealand in conjunction with the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji means the imports will be reinstated.

The Authority's Executive Chairman, Riyaz Khan, says New Zealand is one of the product's major markets.
