Fiji is this week hosting the United Nations' Special Rapporteur on the right to education.
Kishore Singh will visit from today until December 15 to look at Fiji's measures to make education more accessible and look at obstacles.
Mr Singh says he hopes to take a few lessons from Fiji for other small island states.
Fiji brought in a free education policy in 2013.
The government says its tertiary education loans scheme has helped 13,000 students attend a tertiary institution.
Mr Singh is the first independent expert on education tasked by the UN Human Rights Council to visit the country.
