Cooks prepares for possible cyclone

The Cook Islands Meteorological Service is preparing to face Cyclone Tuni if it tracks closer to the island chain.

The cyclone was 160 kilometres north east of Niue this morning and its winds battered the island overnight.

Niue is still under a gale warning, with thunderstorms and high seas forecast for today.

The category one cyclone earlier passed by Samoa and American Samoa, causing flooding and landslides.

The CIMS director Arona Ngari says she is monitoring the situation and will provide regular updates. on Radio Cook Islands and CITV.
