3:50 pm on 27 November 2015

There has been a bank robbery in Solomon Islands.

Three masked men armed with semi-automatic guns walked into the Bank South Pacific BSP branch, in Auki, Malaita and robbed the bank.

They then highjacked a truck and took off with bags of money.

Police are now questioning witnesses who were there.

Hundreds of people were at the bank waiting to withdraw their salaries when the robbery happened.

The bank is yet to confirm how much was stolen.

The police commissioner, Frank Prendergast, says the situation is fluid.

"Three armed men, masked held up the bank this morning, late this morning. There are reports that a shot was fired. We are currently searching for those, the men involved. It is a very fluid situation at the moment so I can't say too much more other than that we are deploying additional resources from Honiara to assist with the search for those men."

Commissioner Prendergast says to his knowledge no one was injured during the robbery.
