Tongans in Auckland to remember Lomu

Members of Auckland's Tongan community have announced a memorial for Jonah Lomu to be held this weekend.

Lomu died unexpectedly yesterday at his Auckland home. He had suffered from a serious kidney disease for several years.

His family has yet to announce funeral plans but a Tongan community leader Salote Heleta Lilo says one will be held on Sunday at the Mangere church his family attended.

Salote Heleta Lilo says she is inviting representatives from the government and the Tongan Royal family.

She wants people to gather to talk about the legend of Lomu, the impact he had and will continue to have for years to come.

Ms Heleta Lilo says though it is being organised by the Tongan community, every one is welcome.

Lomu's wife, Nadene, has spoken on social media about her aching heart.
