A quarter of the people who have been allowed to stay in American Samoa under an immigration amnesty are at risk of losing the status because of unpaid fees.
The territory's Immigration Board has approved just over 3,000 applications to gain legal residency in American Samoa.
The amnesty ended at the end of September but the Attorney General Talaueaga Eleasalo Ale says people have until the last day of the year to pay a bond and obtain their immigration documents.
Talauega says it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and he urged people to complete the formalities and pay the money which is equal to the price of a return ticket to the person's home country.
