The Guam national team remains confident of it can advance to the next round of World Cup qualifying.

The Matao are tied for third in Group D in the second round of Asian qualifying, four points behind group leaders Oman.

After winning their first two qualifying matches in June, Guam have managed just one point and failed to score in their last three matches.

But head coach Gary White believes recent results have not reflected the performances put in by his players and says they still have a lot of belief.

"The goal coming in was always to be the second team because of the powerhouse Iran that's in the group. That's still the goal is to try to grab that second spot and the result against India [next month] will determine that because it will either keep us in the running or it will kick us out and that's why the game is such a big game for us.

"We're very positive about where we're at and I'm sure if somebody had told you months ago that you'd be on seven points and still in the mix going into your sixth game people would think you're crazy, but we're not happy with that - we actually want to try and keep pushing on."

Guam's next qualifying match is away to India in Bangalore next month before returning home to host Iran.
