Filimone Jitoko served as Fiji's secretary to New York and Washington in the 1980s, before becoming the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court until 1987.

He then served as Fiji's ambassador to Israel, Brussels and Denmark, before returning to Fiji to become a High Court judge until he joined the University of the South Pacific in 2009.

Nauru's justice minister, David Adeang, says Mr Jitoko will add a wealth of experience to the country's legal system.
