Pacific artists awarded in New Zealand

Creative New Zealand has recognised talented Pacific artists with the 2015 Arts Pasifika Awards announced today.

The awards, which have been running for 19 years, honour the contributions of people regarded as artists, innovators and leaders in their fields.

The Senior Pacific Artist Award and a prize of US$6,700 went to choreographer Neil Ieremia, whose Black Grace dance company has become a New Zealand icon since it was formed in 1995.

Lonnie Hutchinson picked up the Contemporary Pacific Artist Award for her sculptural work.

Film maker Lisa Taouma got a Special Recognition Award and Joana Monolagi receives a Pacific Heritage Arts award for her work in reviving traditional Fijian arts in New Zealand.
