The associate editor of the newspaper The Australian, Chris Kenny, has become the first foreign journalist to be granted a visa to visit Nauru in 18 months.
Mr Kenny filed a report today based on an interview he secured with a 23-year-old Somali refugee who became pregnant after she was raped .
The woman was last week flown to Australia for an abortion but was returned without undergoing the procedure.
The woman is quoted as saying she still wants an abortion and is seeking one in another country.
His visit follows a report by Al Jazeera earlier this month which said its visa application was rejected.
Last year, Nauru hiked its non-refundable visa application fee by 4000 percent to $5,000 US dollars in what the government itself described as a revenue gathering move.
According to the Guardian news site, News Corp Australia, which owns The Australian, declined to say whether it paid the fee.
Mr Kenny's visit comes after calls by a number of international groups to ease access to Nauru, which has served as one of Australia's processing places for its asylum seekers.
