American Samoa is to get just over US$17 million from the US government for the federally funded school lunch program for the new fiscal year, which began this month.

The Director of Education, Vaitinasa Dr. Salu Hunkin-Finau, says the programme provides two meals a day for all public and private schools in the territory.
And this includes pre-school students to high schools.
She says the programme, for which all students in American Samoa are eligible because they are considered to be from low income families, serves two meals a day - breakfast and lunch.
The director says the programme puts out at least 70,000 meals a month and she is seeking approval of an additional US$2 million from the US Government.
