Prince Albert of Monaco to visit Kiribati

9:48 am on 9 October 2015

Prince Albert of Monaco is scheduled to arrive in Kiribati today for a first-of-its-kind summit to be held in the capital, Tarawa.

The three-day summit brings together small atoll nations including the Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, the Maldives, Tokelau and others, brought together under the aegis of Prince Albert's foundation.

The Kiribati government says sea level rise is becoming more severe, and the atoll states want to ensure climate-induced migrants are catered for in a dignified way.

As well as Prince Albert, the meeting will also be attended by representatives from 17 United Nations agencies, the European Union, and Canada.
