Fiji's disaster management office says more than 50,000 people are affected by a prolonged dry spell in the country's west and north.
The NDMO's director, Akapusi Tuifagalele, says the office has prepositioned its supplies, with water trucks and tanks on standby in the Northern and Western Divisions.
He says divisional commanders are on the ground in affected areas to ensure communities are able to cope with what is expected to be one of the most severe El NiƱo's in years.
Mr Tuifagalele told FBC News that some of the small, offshore islands are also affected and should receive water tanks next week.
