Sport: Australia take medals lead at Commonwealth Youth Games

A dominant display in the water put Australia top of the medal standings after two days of competition at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.

Vincent Dai and Lucy McJannett won gold in the 100m freestyle, Clyde Lewis and Calypso Sheridan did the double in the 400m Individual Medley, while the boy's and girl's 4x200m Freestyle Relay team also prevailed.

Australia won further events in lawn bowls and discus to take their total haul to 11 gold and 28 medals in all.

South Africa is second with seven gold, while England and New Zealand round out the top four.

Malaysia did the double in squash, claiming gold in both the boy's and girl's singles and are in a share of fifth place alongside India.

Hosts Samoa added two more silver medals to bring their tally to three.

They finished runners up in both the boy's and girl's 4x200 Metre Relay, behind Nigeria.

Maria Mareta won Fiji's second medal of the Games, claiming silver in the girl's 58kg weightlifting division.
