Papua New Guinea and the Federated States of Micronesia have signed an amendment treaty concerning maritime boundaries and related matters.

The treaty, originally signed in 1991, had ita amendments approved in Port Moresby where Pacific leaders have been converging for this week's Pacific Islands Forum leaders summit.

The change to the treaty aims to ensure that with relevant references in the current work on extended continental shelf claims both countries have correct and updated technical information.

The newspaper, The National reports PNG Prime Minister Peter O'Neill said the agreement will enhance co-operation between the two countries in fisheries and other maritime activities.

The FSM president Peter Christian welcomed the amended treaty, saying both countries need no longer wake up at night wondering if the common boundary has been moved.
