Cook Islands ministry heads to be named

8:44 am on 4 September 2015

After a delay of over a month, the Cook Islands cabinet is expected to announce the appointments of the remaining Heads of Ministries today.

This is despite having the final list of people recommended to take up the top jobs since mid-June.

The Prime Minister, Henry Puna, says there were legal issues that Cabinet needed to be wary about, and to make sure it doesn't offend any of the legal provisions, particularly the Public Service Act.

The Public Service Commissioner, Russell Thomas, confirmed the selection panel was asked by Cabinet to reconsider the preferred list of applicants originally submitted by the panel.

He says they resubmitted their original recommendations, without any changes.

Cook Islands News understands Cabinet and the selection panel have disagreed on preferred applicants for at least three ministries. Mr Thomas would not comment on this.
