Reports from Vanuatu say an alleged murder on Tanna is linked to the apparent arson of five bungalows at the island's biggest resort.
The body of a young boy was found at the weekend.
The Daily Post newspaper reports a man has been arrested over the death, but attempts to have police clarify the link to the fire have been unsuccessful.
Other sources on the island have told Radio New Zealand International the fire is connected to the arson three weeks ago of a truck belonging to a Chinese construction company that is building a highway on Tanna.
The paper says a large police contingent is now on the island to calm the situation.
