Fiji is taking part in its first high level meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum since it was suspended in 2009.

Fiji's Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola is in Sydney at a meeting of foreign ministers of the Forum.

Ratu Inoke said he was pleased to participate and looked forward to constructive talks.

The meeting was due to centre around disaster management.

The Fiji government says Ratu Inoke hopes to hold one-on-one talks with his regional counterparts including the Australian and New Zealand foreign ministers.

Fiji earlier said it would not attend the main Forum meeting in September because it had problems with New Zealand and Australia being both members and donors.

But engagement has resumed at a lower level in the past few months.

The Forum is headquartered in Suva.
