Nauru court defers MP's passport appeal

7:28 pm on 27 June 2015

Nauru's Supreme Court has deferred an opposition MP's appeal to get his passport back for another two weeks.

Roland Kun's passport was cancelled by the government after protests last week, preventing him from returning to New Zealand where he has been living since his suspension from parliament a year ago.

He says the Justice Minister, David Adeang, wrote to him explaining the cancellation was because he was deemed to be a security risk to the nation.

Mr Kun denies this and has applied for a judicial review of the government's decision.

But the court this morning deferred hearing the application until July the eighth, which Mr Kun says leaves him in limbo on the island for another two weeks.

"I cannot travel and I continue to have to live away from my family and this is putting great strain on my family and our living arrangement is becoming very difficult."
