Pacific MPs in NZ for workshop

4:24 pm on 22 June 2015

Pacific Parliamentarians are in New Zealand this week as part of an effort to enhance communications between Pacific members of parliaments.

The Speaker of New Zealand's Parliament, David Carter, will welcome members from Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga.

Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong, says very few Pacific countries are in the IPU and this is a chance to foster new links.

As part of the programme, the Secretary General and the Speakers will undertake a series of workshops and discussions themed around good governance and strengthening parliamentary democracy.
